| Rwanda seeks Rwf10 billion to develop its foreign land |
Rwanda needs at least $18m (Rwf10.3b) to develop the three foreign plots that it acquired in order to facilitate its exports and imports. The governments of Kenya, Tanzania and Djibouti offered plots of land to the Rwandan government at Mombasa, Isaka and Djibouti respectively. The Rwandan government gave the land to its private sector as a way of boosting business. [more] |

| Government to introduce mandatory deposit insurance |
 The Central Bank Governor, François Kanimba, has said that a feasibility study will commence this year, paving way for the introduction of mandatory deposit insurance scheme. The Governor said that the deposit insurance fund would cover for depositors’ money in case the bank or any deposit-taking financial institution goes bankrupt. [more] |

| Akamba opens Nairobi-Kigali route |
 The oldest bus company in the East African region, Akamba Public Road Services Ltd, has started operations in Rwanda. The Kenyan registered company started operating a Nairobi – Kigali route via Kampala on February 6, 2010. The company said it is also offering courier services for those wishing to send letters or parcels within the region. [more] |

The Private Sector Federation (PSF) has awarded 30 certificates to participants from 16 different financial institutions that were under going 4-day training in records management. The umbrella arm of the business community says that the skills gained in financial records management are an important resource in business organizations. [more] |

Equity Market Yesterday the Rwanda OTC market was quiet as no transactions were recorded. The KCB shares remained at Rwf 165. At the end of the session, there were no offers or bids. Friday on the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE), a total of 226,400 shares were traded. KCB shares traded within the range of 22.50 Kshs (168 Rfw) and 22.00 Kshs (Rwf165) and closed at 22.00 Kshs (165 Rfw). [more] |
