APR ladies turn focus to Africa Championship
BY JULIUS MBARAGA

After stumping their authority on the local scene, APR’s ladies basketball team will now turn their prowess on the continental scene.

The ladies’ national league champions depart for Kenya today ahead of the Africa Club championships which throw off this Saturday, November 20 in Nairobi.

APR got their championship ticket after their runners up finish in the just ended Africa Zone 5 club championships staged in Ethiopia.

APR lost to Kenya’s KPA but the fact that Kenya is hosting the competition gives the region three slots in the championship. Eagle Wings is the other Kenyan side in contention.

APR, making their debut appearance in the competition will contend with tough sides like defending champions Desportivo of Mozambique, Djoliba (Mali), First Bank (Nigeria), ABC, CSA (Ivory Coast), Radi and V-Club (DR Congo) and Sotrata (Madagascar). Desportivo lifted last year’s title after edging Angola’s Primero de Agosto in the final.

On Saturday, APR retained their league crown after capping a thrilling play offs display with a massive 83-44 game ‘three’ victory over the National University of Rwanda (UNR).
