KIGALI - The Minister of Local Government Protais Musoni has urged all Rwandans to embrace Itorero ry’Igihugu (a cultural education programme) in a bid to foster unity and sustainable peace.

“We are all responsible for Itorero ry’Igihugu. Through close cooperation by all of us, the social and economic challenges we face today would be solved,” Musoni said.

While addressing different leaders at Camp Kigali grounds on Friday, the minister said that the programme was initiated to facilitate the healing of broken hearts of many people through promoting culture, fighting genocide ideology and fostering the reconciliation process.

At least 24, 00 people have been trained under Itorero to help train their fellow citizens in their respective villages on a number of issues including Rwandan culture from the grassroots’ level.

Musoni said that Itorero is a culture-based platform based through which people solve their problems, promoting national unity and executing all government development programmes at all levels. “It’s a way of pooling resources towards a common good,” he added.

He explained that it’s the right time for people to forget their differences and work together in order to promote economic development.
